Born free, a lioness of two worlds – by Joy Adamson

This audiobook tells the true story of a lion cub being removed from the captivity in which she was raised and being returned to the fearsome wild. It captures the abilities of both humans and animals to cross the gap between their extremely different worlds.

There are many accounts of tame animals being returned to the wild, but this one stands alone in its power to move us. Especially now, at a time when the sanctity of the wild and its creatures is constantly threatened by human development and natural disaster.

Born Free is the account of Elsa the lioness’s life and the difficult task put before her adoptive parents, Joy and George Adamson. Raised by the Adamsons, Elsa treated them as her lion pride, and they treated her as their child, but they never forgot that she was a wild lion, and they struggle with their decision to release her and return her to the wild.
