Cover Her Face – by PD James

A murder in an East Anglian village reveals hidden passions beneath the calm surface. Begin at a dinner party hosted by Mrs. Eleanor Maxie at Martingale, a medieval manor house in the (fictional) Essex village of Chadfleet. Mrs. Maxie’s son and daughter, Stephen Maxie and Deborah Riscoe, are both at the party. Serving at the party is Sally Jupp, an unmarried mother with an infant son, who was employed by Mrs. Maxie.

Young, headstrong and beautiful, housemaid Sally Jupp is rudely put in her place, and soon found strangled in her bed behind a bolted door. Inspector Adam Dalgliesh of Scotland Yard must find her killer among a houseful of suspects, all of whom had very good reason to wish her ill.

Starring Robin Ellis as Adam Dalgliesh, Sian Phillips as Mrs Maxie, Hugh Grant as Felix and Beatie Edney as Deborah.
Dramatised by Neville Teller.
Producer: Matthew Walters
